Photographer

I was given a small plastic camera when I was 6 or so. Possibly for Christmas but maybe for a birthday. It used 120 film and my first images were rubbish. At high school in mid 80s, I took photography as an elective. We rolled and developed our own B&W 35mm film. The images I captured using a Pentax K1000 were mostly rubbish, but I will never forget the magic of developing my photos. Seeing the image appear on the paper in the chemicals was simply amazing!

In the mid 90s, my grandparents moved into town from their farm. I ended up with Pa's Pentax KX, which he had bought in Singapore in the mid 70s. At the time I was at university and had time to take photos. Although they were still mostly rubbish, I managed to capture a few good ones here and there. In the late 90s I moved to Japan to work as an EFL/ESL instructor. I still had my KX, but it was fading. I bought a Pentax MZ30 and really started to take photography more seriously. I used the MZ30 until the mid 2000s, when I bought my first DSLR, a Pentax K100.

Since then, I have bought other two DSLRs. The K5 and my current model, the KP (which I love!) Before I left Singapore last year, I fulfilled a dream when I found a Pentax 645n in seriously good condition and had some money from a couple of small side jobs. I still have the K100 and am hoping my kids will get into photography.
